What is the process of e visa application?

The process is of e visa application pretty simple and easy to complete. One will have to go to the portal of evisa and then will have to choose the visa application among the e-tourist, business or medical visas. After this, one will have to submit the required details and documents along with the visa fee for the application to get approved. After the approval, the applicant will receive the evisa in their email address mentioned in the form. 

The details that need to be provided are:

  • Passport details and information

  • Reason behind visit

  • Address

  • Religion

  • Date of birth

  • Place of birth

  • Marital status

  • Date of arrival and departure

  • Letter of invitation from Indian organization or hospital in case of business visa or medical visa respectively.

After the visa is approved and one gets the e visa digitally, they need to be printed out. This printed out visa needs to be carried along with the passport while travelling to India. After reaching the airport in India, immigration authorities will put a stamp of visa on the passport, without the stamp; one cannot be a legal visitor in India. 

Also, the e-visa needs to be applied before leaving the Marshall Islands. One cannot get the visa after reaching India.

Where the e-visa is accepted?

The e-visa is accepted for air travel and for sea travel. This form of visa is not applicable for land travel and one will have to apply online for a traditional kind of visa if one is coming to India via land.

There are five seaports which allow the passengers to carry an e visa with them and will provide a visa or arrival at the port. These seaports are:

  • Goa

  • Chennai

  • Mumbai

  • Cochin

  • Mangalore

When it comes to airports, there are 28 airports which allow electronic visa entry to India. Airports which allow entry for e-visa holder are like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Amritsar, Pune, Ahmadabad, Varanasi, Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata, Goa, etc. one can get a full list of the airports at the our portal.

What is the validity of the e-visa?

Every visa has a certain validity period, within which one needs to complete the travel, or else the visa will lapse. electronic visa has a validity of 1 year or 5 years after getting the approval. One will have to travel to India within that one year before the e-visa lapses. Also during this 1 year’s time, the applicant can visit India multiple times. 

After reaching India, as well, there is a validity time till which one can stay in India. If one has an e-tourist visa then they will get to stay only for 90 days in India with a multiple entry rule. In case of a 1 year or 5-year e-tourist visa, one can get multiple entries to the country within the period.  

For e-business visa, the applicant is eligible to stay continuous in India for 180 days. After this, they will have to leave the country. And, for those who are coming to India on medical treatment purposes with an e-medical visa, they will have 60 days validity. Within these 60 days, the applicant can visit India 3 times.

Note:  The e-visa cannot be extended from India and neither can be applied from India.

What is the cost of applying for e-visa?

E-visa is not free, as one will have to apply online and pay a certain fee to get the application to be submitted. One can pay through online payments modes like debit/credit card. Also, ones the payment is submitted, there is no way to cancel the order of e-visa application. The fees of the visa depend on the types of visa one has applied for, and also on the speed of the processing. In case, one wants the application to be processed quickly within 72 hours or 48 hours, and then they will have to pay more.

What can be the reason behind the rejection of the e-visa application?

There are can be various reasons behind the rejection of one’s electronic visa application like:

  • Expired passport

  • Unclear picture

  • Old picture

  • Documents being hazy

  • Not filling the form properly 

  • Unclear scanning of letter of invitation etc. 

Therefore, one should make it a point to fill the visa form very carefully and should provide with clear information only. Though the cases of visa rejections are quite low, one should not take any chances. Also, it is better to apply for the visa beforehand, so as not to miss the date of travel in case the visa approval taking up time.
